Waterford footballers bow out of 2017 Championship following Derry defeat

Waterford exited the All Ireland football championship to Derry at a sunny Fraher Field this afternoon. Danny Heavron fired a second half goal as the Oak Leaf county prevailed by 1-17 to 0-13.

The visitors led eleven points to nine at the break. Donie Breathnach and Gavin Crotty kicked three points each in that opening half.

Derry pushed on in the second period to book their place in the next round.

Manager Tom McGlinchey said that the goal proved the turning point.
