Waterford Airport to Host Runway Run to honour the memory of Dara Fitzpatrick

The runway at Waterford Airport is the venue in September for The Dara Fitzpatrick Memorial Run.

Dara was killed when the Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116 crashed off the Mayo Coast last March.

It's a 5k run for charity on the runway used by Dara for ten years while based with Rescue 117 at Waterford Airport.

The two charities are Touching Hearts and South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association.

Her sister Niamh said she and her two sisters will be running the race.

She said Dara loved Waterford and the area held a special place in her heart.

Meanwhile teams continuing the search for missing Rescue 116 crewmen Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smith, say they're not giving up.

The operation off the Mayo coast resumes again today as Garda dive teams and a specially fitted trawler search the sea-bed where the Coast Guard helicopter crashed.

They are preparing for the return of the Irish Lights' vessel the Granuaile at the weekend, to operate robot cameras along the search site.
