Waterford Distillery says they hope to open a visitor centre in the future.

The CEO of the Waterford Distillery says they are concentrating on production before turning their attention to opening a visitor centre.

Earlier this year the company raised over 20 million euro for the deveopment of the product which won't be available for sale for another three to four years.

The first whiskey ran in January 2016 and one million litres are now maturing in the best of French and American oak barrels at Ballygarran near Waterford Airport.

Mark Reynier says the site at the former Guinness Brewery in Mary Street includes the former Strangman's Brewery which closed in 1950.

He says the old brewery from 1792 is all there is aspic and they will do something with it when they get to bottling their whiskey.

He says it's a beautiful thing to see and they will be very happy to show people parr of the industrial heritage of Waterford.
