A new plan which will be trialled in Waterford is being launched to help make it easier for people making the move from social welfare to employment.
The Pathways to Work Action Plan aims to reduce the number of households that are jobless to 13 percent or less by 2020.
It focuses in particular on improving employment rates of households with children.
The new approach is due to be trialled in Waterford, Dundalk, Cork, Tallaght and Limerick.
Minister for Social Protection Regina Doherty says they want to provide services and assistance to people who could potentially take up full or part time employment.
