A Waterford Councillor says the continued closure of the Ice Plant in Dunmore East is having a major bearing on the South Eastern fishing community.
Bord Iascaigh Mhara confirmed that the plant had been closed temporarily last week, after samples tested positive for E-coli.
Further tests took place this week, however the results have yet to be confirmed.
The ice produced at the Dunmore facility is used by fishermen to keep their catch fresh while on long expeditions at sea.
Sinn Fein Councillor Pat Fitzgerald says no explanation has been given as to how the contamination took place. He says it’s having a financial bearing on fishermen and also on the local economy, but there is no risk to public health.
