An RTE employee has been accused of inciting sexual activity with and what he believed to be a 13 year old girl in England.
The news comes after a Leeds based vigilante group aimed at exposing sexual predators used a facebook profile posing as an underage girl to expose the accused who had flown to Leeds to meet with what he allegedly believed was the underage girl.
The group confronted the man, while live streaming the encounter through facebook, to present the allegations and question his reasoning for travelling to the area before calling the police.
Speaking on Deise Today, Mark Tighe, Journalist with the Sunday Times, discussed the implications of such a confrontion and the legal issues surrounding it, saying “the purpose of broadcasting it live was to have a record of the fact there was no physical harm to either party involved’, on the subject of the vigilante nature of the group ‘we’ve seen these type of groups in America and the UK but it has been the first time that they’ve been of note in Ireland and this may possibly lead to them popping up over here.”
