David Cullinane once again selected as Sinn Féin's general election candidate

David Cullinane once again selected as Sinn Féin's general election candidate

The sitting TD was unanimously selected at the party's convention for the Waterford constituency this morning.

Louise Brierely was selected as an area Representative for Lismore and its environs and Leslie Hughes-Cusack as a party representative for the Waterford City West electoral area, while Michael Doyle was selected as the local branches' Director of Elections.

David Cullinane says he's looking forward to contesting the next election and that today's new appointments show that the party is ready to run a strong field of candidates in the next local election.

Speculation is rife that Mary Lou McDonald will be named as the party's new leader in the near future and David Cullinane says he'll be backing her for the role.

"There will be no coronation for anybody in Sinn Féin," he says. "The party has today set a date for a special Árd Fheis. That means that any member of the party is open to put their name forward for convention. I will be backing Mary Lou McDonald, I think she is a tremendous talent politically."
