Over a hundred people braved the elements last night for the 'Big Deise Sleep Out'

Now in it's third year, the 'Big Deise Sleep Out' for Focus Ireland aims to give people a taste of what life is like for those experiencing homelessness.

So far over €8,000 has been raised but it's expected the final tally will be higher, and all funds raised will go to supporting the work of Focus Ireland.

Waterford Olympian Thomas Barr was one of those who took part, and he spoke to WLR's Mary O'Neill on the grounds of the Edmund Rice Centre in Waterford City.

"This is my second year doing it," he said, " and we've been lucky the last two years that it's been dry, but it's not always doing to be dry and there are people sleeping out in worse weather than this."

"I am, in a way, using my status to actually try and put the word out there, raise awareness and raise money."
