Over 2,500 people are taking part in the Waterford AC Half Marathon which took off from the WIT Sports Campus in the past hour.
The event has proved hugely popular over the last few years with numerous athletes from all over the country descending on Waterford.
Kieran O' Mahony is Secretary with Waterford Athletic Club and is advising the public to beware of the runners on the roads this morning.
"We've no complete road closures," he says, "but the places we'd expect delays would be along Ballybeg Drive, through to the Lacken Road and Green Road. Again around the Sixcrossroads and the Butlerstown Roundabout and it's approach from Kilmeaden."
Kieran says it's great to see so many people from outside the County signing up for the big event
"We've over 70% of our registrations are coming from outside of the county, so we're delighted with the response we've had."
