Sinn Fein TD David Cullinane says all interested parties must now make their mind up on the viablity of Waterford Airport.
State funding there is under serious threat because there are no commercial flights in operation.
There have been no regular scheduled services from the Airport since June 2016.
David Cullinane says the size of the runway limits the type of Aircraft that can fly from Waterford making it more difficult to obtain a commercial carrier and he has called for an independent cost benefit anaylsis of extending it.
He says it is coming to a point where the Department needs to decide if it wants a regional Airport in Waterford or not.
The Department of Transport has refused to fund an extension of the runway because current policy does not allow for it.
David Cullinane says taxpayers money must be protected but with the proposed North Quays development, a viable airport would be needed in Waterford.
