Lafcadio Hearn Gardens transformed into an 'Enchanted Garden'

The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens in Tramore have been transformed for the Christmas period.

"The Enchanted Garden" is a winter light festival, running until New Year's Eve.

They're open every day excluding Mondays and Tuesdays from 4.30pm to 7.30pm, until New Year's Eve, with the exception of the 24th, 25th and 26th of December.

Director of the Gardens Agnes Aylward gives just a flavour of what you can expect:

"The gardens are illuminated over an acre of space, lots of winding paths, lots of enchantment with beams of lights going up trees...we have a reindeer grotto, an amphitheatre.. it really is a magical winter wonderland.

She says New Year's Eve will be particularly special:

"The Japanese New Year is at 5pm.. we open at 4.30 so we will celebrate the new year, in Japan there is a bell sounding ceremony and we will have a shortened version with a gong and music."

Tickets on Gate: Adults €5 - Children €2. Family Ticket (2 adults and 2 children = €12).
