Residents were treated to a merry day out this week in the city, getting brought for a tour on the Winterval Express Train around seasonal attractions such as the Waterford Eye. The festive locomotive can often be seen snaking around the city centre for the month of December.
Frankie McEvoy is a volunteer at Holy Ghost Nursing Home as well as being the man behind the initiative. He told WLR News that it was ideal for people who might not have gotten to see Winterval just yet:
“I was in the front carriage with the driver and when you’d look back, just to see the look on their faces – words just don’t describe it. It’s just an experience for them, [there’s] nothing like it, to be actually on the train. And then as they were passing down Broad St they had the people waving at them, that added to it as well. They would have gone around a second time if they were left!”
