The BT Young Scientist Exhibition opens to the public today, with over 500 projects on display at Dublin’s RDS.
Two Waterford schools are represented at the Exhibition which in its 54th year.
Ardscoil na Mara in Tramore has four projects through to the finals while De La Salle College has one.
Niamh Shannon is a teacher at Ardscoil na Mara. She’s says it’s a great achievement to be selected to get through: “there’s a real diversity between the projects… the students have shown great interest and done really good work on them”.
One of the students is first year Roisin ní Cadhla who is part of a group looking at the sexist conditioning of children through TV and film:
“Some people might laugh when we say we’re doing a project on peppa pig and superheros, but when we’d explain about the sexism and how it influences children they’d stop laughing.”
