Waterford Council called on to brief local media on housing and homelessness.

Waterford Council management have been called on to liaise with local media on a more regular basis, to update people on developments over social housing.

The example of roads was cited by Sinn Féin's Jim Griffin who said that during Storm Ophelia the Council's Director of Roads Services gave thorough updates on issues facing the county.

Councillor Griffin said, "We had Fergus (Galvin) on WLR during a crisis, Storm Ophelia... and he gave an excellent overview of what we do and what our outdoor staff do. I think the housing is a crisis, and I would love if the executive would leave Ivan (Grimes) go on the radio every two or three months."

Councillor Griffin said such a move may free up inquiries to the housing department.

It's a move that Director of Service, Ivan Grimes said he'd be "fully in agreement with."
