"Future is bright" for the Tech Industry in Waterford

The President of Waterford Institute of Technology says there's been an amazing transformation in the tech industry in the South East.

There are now 100 ICT companies in the region and many of them are linked to Carriganore and the institute.

The Crystal Valley Tech initiative has been set up to promote the strength of Waterford's tech scene to local, national and international audiences, to foster cooperation around recruitment and to collaborate with the education sector to forge new career paths.

The initiative will be launched officially on Monday (February 26th).

Professor Willie Donnelly says Waterford's future is bright:

"Our focus is doing research for training and development of our students for industry, but also for creating economic impact in the region and Crystal Valley tech is a wonderful example of that.

"It's about people's lifestyle, it's about people's futures. When Waterford Crystal closed it was a very dark day for this city, today thanks to these new industries which came from this research and innovation we have a bright future."
