BREAKING: Met Eireann has upgraded weather warning in Waterford from orange to red

Met Eireann's national weather warnings have been updated this evening with Waterford being upgraded from Status Orange to Status Red, taking effect from 9pm tonight (28th Feb) until 3pm Friday (2nd Mar).

The status red snow/ice alert is now in place for ALL COUNTIES.

According to Met Eireann, "further disruptive heavy snow showers are expected overnight with significant accumulations". They have also stated that "blizzard-like conditions will develop in heavy snow and strong easterly winds on Thursday evening and will continue Thursday night and Friday morning giving significant snow drifts in many areas".

This warning was issued at 8pm this evening (28th Feb).

Met Eireann advises that everyone in the affected areas stays indoors. Gardaí in Waterford told WLR News it would be 'suicidal' to drive during the status red weather warning.

All schools and colleges in Munster and Leinster will be closed tomorrow and Friday due to the red weather alert for snow and ice. Public transport is suspended and health services will be significantly affected. Read more here.
