Man being treated at UHW for injuries suffered in Waterford explosion.

Emergency crews attended a house fire in Waterford last night following an explosion on the Ballytruckle Road.

The occupant of the house is being treated at University Hospital Waterford.

The explosion which happened around 8.30am was heard by neighbours in the surrounding areas of Pearse Park, Ursuline Court, Ferndale and The Folly.

Four units of the Waterford City Fire Service attended.

The man who lives in the house was cared for by neighbours before being taken to UHW.

One of them told WLR News that he was quiet and courteous and hoped his dog had escaped from the blaze.

The Fire Service remained working at the scene until 10.30pm to prevent the flames from spreading.

Gas Networks Ireland say they were asked by the Waterford Fire Service to attend the incident at 99 Ballytruckle Road.

The cause of the incident is unknown and an investigation is currently ongoing by An Garda Síochána and relevant authorities.
