Mount Congreve Estate set to re-open to the public on St. Patricks Day.

A Waterford Fianna Fail councillor says the local authority are well placed to drive the development of Mount Congreve.

Waterford City and County Council have officially taken over the operation of the world famous house and gardens on behalf of the State.

It was due to re-open this weekend but due to the weather conditions that has now been put back to St. Patricks Day.

The deal will see the local authority receive an annual grant of €250,000 for the next seven years.

Fianna Fail's Adam Wyse as well as Mayor Pat Nugent and Council CEO Michael Walsh were named trustees of the estate.

Cllr. Wyse says the Council can help Mount Congreve become even more successful as a regional tourist attraction.

He says that the estate's link up with the Waterford Greenway is a huge plus.
