Iarnród Éireann say works on the Waterford to Dublin Heuston track will kick off from today.

Bus transfers are going to be in place today for train commuters between Waterford's Plunkett Station and Dublin's Heuston Station.

It's so Irish Rail can upgrade a signalling system at Kilkenny Station and to allow for Sallins bypass works.

The project involves the replacement of the control system with a computer based electronic one.

Light signals are being replaced with LED and new lineside signalling equipment is also being replaced in the station area and on the line for seven kilometres approaching from Waterford and Dublin.
