Abbeyside and Fourmilewater got off the mark in the county senior hurling championship at a wet and windy Fraher Field last night.
Goals from Patrick Hurney and Sean Whelan Barrett gave the Villagers a 2-9 to 0-10 victory against Ballyduff Upper.
Manager Peter Queally felt that they coped better with the conditions.
He said that the two goals were crucial scores.
Shane Walsh struck an injury time winner as Fourmilewater fought back from seven points down to edge out Dungarvan 0-14 to 0-13.
