Waterford FF Councillor says he will be voting no in the referendum next month.

A Waterford Fianna Fáil councillor says friends have told him that repealing the Eighth Amendment will lead to women treating abortion as contraception.

Councillor Eamon Quinlan says he will be voting No in the referendum next month.

He says he has many female friends that went to the UK to work and found that abortion has become normalised there and is now seen as a form of contraception.

He said he has never been able to be anything but pro life.

He says the government has made clear that if the eight amendment is repealed they are going to legislate for up to 12 weeks un-restricted abortion.

Eamon Quinlan said he would have ethical and moral problems with the idea of abortion of up to 12 weeks for any reason whatsoever.

He says the right to life is primary and all other rights are secondary.
