Fianna Fail's Eddie Mulligan says development of a higher education campus in Kilkenny would damage Waterford's potential.

Fianna Fail's Eddie Mulligan says development of a higher education campus in Kilkenny would damage Waterford's potential.

The proposed development of a higher education campus in Kilkenny would critically undermine Waterford IT's bid for Technological University status.

That's according to Fianna Fail Councillor Eddie Mulligan.

Minister of State Mary Mitchell O'Connor this week called for the creation of a 1 thousand student campus in the former Diageo brewery in the town.

Kilkenny Councillor David Fitzgerald said it was their preference that the facility be linked with the proposed technological university of the South East, but that that was not the only option open to them.

Fianna Fail's Eddie Mulligan said the move would damage Waterford's potential.

He says he sees it as an attempt to 'pilfer' resources from Waterford.

Eddie Mulligan says the focus needs to be on retaining a student body in Waterford.
