Déise hurlers begin new look campaign with trip to Cusack Park to face Clare this Sunday

Waterford hurlers begin their Munster Championship campaign with a clash against Clare on Sunday.

The new Championship format will see Derek McGrath's charges play four Sunday's in succession and with Walsh Park unavailable, will play all their games away from home.

Waterford overcame Clare in the final round of this year's league but ultimately fell short against Cork in the Relegation play-off.

Austin Gleeson and Pairic Mahony have been ruled out of Sunday's opening championship game.

The pair have niggling injuries and are being rested as a precaution.

Déise forward Brian O' Halloran told WLR Sport the new format is something the players are looking forward to

Brian says they didn't take too much notice of the home venue situation when Walsh Park was ruled out.

Brian says recovery is going to be vital throughout what's set to be a challenging four weeks.
