Thomas Barr records  his season's best time with a win in Lucerne.

Waterford's Thomas Barr won a top class International 400 metres hurdle race in Lucerne in Switzerland last night.

The Olympic 400m hurdles finalist came from behind and had a season's best time of 49.10 seconds with a power packed finish.

Teejay Holmes USA was second in a time of 49.20 and Shaun Rowe Jamacia was third in 49.27.

They both had faster times than Thomas this year going into last night's race.

His previous best this year of 49.40 which Thomas ran to win in Slovakia, last month.

The 25 year old is using these races as preperation for the European Championships in Berlin in August.

His personal best remains the 47.97 he ran to finish fourth in the Olympic final in 2016.

Last night's time was Thomas's quickest at his specialist event in 13 months and moves him to seventh on the European rankings.
