The President of Waterford Institute of Technology says they hope to make a submission for Technological University designation at the end of September.
Three IT's in Dublin will merge in January to form the first Tech Uni, after they were given formal approval in the past week.
Speaking at that event Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said his only regret was that they're not ready to make a similar announcement for the South East. He called on WIT and IT Carlow to redouble their efforts and get it done as soon as possible.
Profesor Willie Donnelly says WIT and IT Carlow are totally committed to this.

He says they're not getting caught up on what other institutes are doing.
