It's been confirmed that construction is to begin on a second, permanent cath lab on the grounds of University Hospital Waterford.
The development was confirmed following a meeting between Health Minister Simon Harris and South Eastern Oireachtas members yesterday.
The process to design and construct the new lab is to start immediately, with the recruitment of staff due to take place during the construction phase.

The facility will NOT provide 24/7 cardiac care, however a second cath lab was identified as a pre-requisite to round-the-clock-care in the Herity Report.
Waterford Indepndent Minister John Halligan told WLR News that local representatives put on a united front.
He says that work has been ongoing behind the scenes.
