Integration Forum to be established in Waterford

Integration Forum to be established in Waterford

People who've come from other countries, and made Waterford their home, are being invited to take part in the creation of an Integration Forum.

The forum will support Waterford Council's 2019 integration plan.

It aims to identify the needs of all residents and migrants in Waterford, as well as improving community supports.

Meetings will be held in Dungarvan at the Park Hotel on Tuesday from 7.30 to 9pm and in Waterford city at the Tower Hotel on Wednesday also from 7.30-9pm.

Noireen Healy Magwa is involved in the creation of the forum, she says it's a proactive step from Waterford Council:

"The idea is that over the next three months we will have a number of meetings ...to encourage as many representatives of the migrant community across the whole of the county to engage."

She says Waterford and Ireland is becoming a much more diverse place and there are a number of challenges to be worked out:

"There are huge positives but also challenges of course and that's what the integration strategy will try to combat, but we really want to emphasise the positive impact of having such a diverse society".
