Waterford Councillor hits out at 4 year waiting lists for ENT appointments

A Waterford Labour Councillor says patients in Waterford are waiting up to 4 years for outpatient appointments

John Pratt has hit out at the long waiting times for ear, nose and throat services in the South East.

The most recent figures show more than 8,000 on the ENT list at University Hospital Waterford, 3,000 of whom are waiting 18 months or more.

Councillor Pratt says it's "disgraceful."

"This is supposed to part of the programme for government that these waiting lists would be cut," he said, "but we're not progressing in Waterford. We all know that if you're in the system it's very good, but getting into the system is absolutely atrocious."

He says the wait is having a bearing on patients' lives.

"God knows how it's affecting people, they're probably out of work in severe cases."
