Waterford Company to close with the loss of 18 jobs.

Allsop Europe Limited say the loss of their most significant contract has led to their decision to close their Waterford plant with the loss of 18 jobs.

In a statement to WLR News the company say it is with great sadness that the Owners of Allsop Europe Ltd.,on the IDA Industrial Estate, Cork Road, Waterford announce that the company will cease manufacturing towards the end of next January after 40 years in Waterford.

The company manufactures monitor stands and accessories.

They said they would like to extend their heartful gratitude to their loyal employees, who have given the company many years and decades of professional and dedicated service.

The company informed staff at the plant this week.

A long term Allsop employee told the Waterford News and Star that they were devastated by the News.

They have been told that they won't be getting any redundancy payments.

SIPTU official Davy Lane told WLR News that negotiations will begin with the company on the 2nd of January.

He said the announcement of the closure came out of the blue, and was a shock to all the employees.

Davy Lane said they would be hoping to get a better deal for workers, a lot of  whom have very long service with the Company,
