The Open Door by South East Simon is looking for your donations of quality men, women’s and children’s clothing, bags, shoes, coats, belts and scarves, bed linen, books, bric-a-brac, and any other unwanted items that can be generated into sales to provide homes for those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The spring has arrived and a lot of people are out gardening and buying summer bedding plants and shrubs, perhaps it they bought an extra shrub, or section of bedding plants and donated them to the shop, it would make a difference, as every little helps. . Cityside Community Based Drugs Initiative continues its weekly Auricular Acupuncture Clinic. The clinic takes place on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 7:30pm at the Youth and Community Centre 1 & 2 Abbeylands, Ferrybank. Auricular Acupuncture is ideal for assisting detox, relaxation and alleviating stress and is very helpful for people who are trying to give up any substances. First visit is free and a fee of €3.00 is payable for any follow up visits. Each session lasts about 40 minutes. Sliabh gCua / St. Mary's GAA club are holding their 5th Annual Long Puck Competition on Monday August 2nd. Registration will take place at Kirwan Park, Touraneena at 5.30pm. Teams of 3 at a fee of €60 per team, under 16 pay €10 each, each competitor to bring their own sliotar. Moneys raised go towards the building of the hurling wall.
There will be a BBQ afterwards for participants, supporters and helpers. It is guaranteed to be a very entertaining evening so come along and enjoy the craic.

August Tea Dance for the Young at Heart - The Waterford Healing Arts Trust is delighted to announce that the fourth in the series of monthly tea dances for the over 60s will take place on Monday August 9th in the WHAT Centre for Arts and Health. The Waterford Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland and the Sportif Waterford Cycle Club invite you to take part in a Family Cycle to Tramore and back, €20 per family of four, or a 50km cycle along the Coast Road to Bunmahon and back or a 100km cycle along the Coast Road to Dungarvan and back. The Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC) Service in Waterford will be held on the first and third Wednesday evening of every month in St. Brigid's Family and Community Centre on the Lower Yellow Road. Anybody interested in making an appointment should phone the Citizens Information Centre on 051 351133. The service is both free and confidential. Queries on all areas of law are welcome however the service is unavailable to anyone who has already engaged a solicitor to deal with the matter.

Larchville Lisduggan Community Development Project recently set up a knitting group for beginners and experienced knitters which meets on Thursday mornings in the Manor St. John Building, Lisduggan. They have knitted hats which will be donated to the premature babies in WRH, and are hoping to knit some more for good causes. The Family Support Network is announcing the set up of a Men’s Support Group. The group is for fathers living with drug use in the family. The men’s group provides critical support for fathers in this situation through meeting with other fathers in a safe and confidential environment. Cityside CBDI provides a safe space in the form of a Family Support Group for concerned family members to come together to share their experiences and to support one another to get through the crises that arise. Family Support Groups meet weekly in confidence and are open to anyone who shares this concern. The main purpose of these groups is to combat the isolation and fear that substance misuse causes. There is no need to be alone with this problem for one moment longer.

Cityside Community Based Drugs Initiative has set up a weekly clinic for those wishing to receive Auricular Acupuncture as part of its plan to offer a wide range of support to local people. The clinic takes place on Monday evenings from 5pm to 6.30pm at the Edmund Rice Youth and Community Centre, Manor Street, Waterford. Support in the Community
The Community Based Drugs Initiative offers support in communities (Ferrybank, Innercity, Hillview and Gracedieu) to those affected by drugs in a number of ways. It offers one to one support for individuals and families it also provides the facility for family support groups to come together. The priority at all times is to provide a safe, confidential and non judgmental space for people who may be going through a very difficult time in their life because of drugs including alcohol. A focus of the Community Based Drugs Initiative is to promote prevention of drug misuse through raising awareness in local communities, by offering drug awareness/education programmes for Parents, Young People, Community and Voluntary Groups. Communities are supported and encouraged to identify the needs in their own area and are helped to develop plans to respond to the drug misuse issues in their community. Since July 2003 Waterford Cheshire has been offering short breaks away from home to people with physical disabilities. Well over a hundred people have availed of the service and many return on a regular basis. To avail of the service you must be aged 18 to 65 years and reside in the HSE Southern Region. Fun 4 All Wheelchair Sports Club for children and teenagers takes place every Friday evening from 6:30pm – 8:00pm at the Kingfisher Club, Tramore Road. Foróige Ferrybank Youth Services will run a “Coffee House” for young people of the area in the Community House at 58 Ard Daire. Here the young people can access youth information, get a hot drink and a snack, play computer games, have a chat, read a magazine or just relax. First Years are invited to come along on Thursday afternoons from 5pm to 6pm. Second Years and older can use the facility on Tuesday evenings from 7:45pm to 9pm and Friday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm. St. Brigid’s Family Resource Centre in partnership with Waterford City Council’s Central Library have started Parent and Toddler Group for Waterford City. The Parent and Toddler Group will be run in the newly refurbished Children’s Corner of Waterford City Council’s Central Library in Ladylane and will take place each week on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 to 12noon. There will be some fun activities, storytelling and entertainment for the toddlers, and for the parents we hope to include some information and invite guest speakers on various relevant topics of interest. Service will provide carers with support, training and information on their rights and entitlements closer to home. Co. Waterford Community Drug Awareness
Your community drugs worker is available to you for support, information, advice and drug education. Stress relief and substance detox clinic is available to entire community. This service offers you a chance to relax and detox for 1 hour a week. Clinic runs every Thursday morning 11-12:30pm in Tramore Library and evening 6:30-7:30pm in Community Building, Ard and Ghleanna, Tramore. Cost is €2 - €5. Rainbows is a support programme for children aged 6 to 12 years who are experiencing loss due to the death of a relative or parental separation.
