FOUR Waterford people have been handed a challenge to ‘shape up’ in 2012 as part of a brand new exciting competition which is currently being aired on WLR FM every Friday.
Over the course of six weeks, the Waterford public will be able to closely follow the progress of the four contenders – plus a ‘secret celebrity’ only to be revealed at the finale – on the popular ‘DEISE AM’ programme presented by Billy McCarthy.
The Shape Up Challenge is being run in conjunction with five Waterford gyms as well as Unislim, Shaws Department Store, Tesco Ardkeen and Fitzpatrick’s Manor Bar & Grill.
They are Kathleen Troy from Dungarvan, Anne Connors from Passage East, Helen Dunphy from Tramore and Mike Raher from Kill.
Each Friday morning on ‘DEISE AM’ the contestants will be interviewed on-air by Billy McCarthy on their week-by-week progress while the results of their weekly weigh-ins will also be revealed.
Over the six weeks, all involved (including the ‘secret celebrity’) will have the services of their own personal trainers from The Park Hotel Leisure Centre in Dungarvan, Spirit Leisure Centre in the city, Glow Health & Fitness in Tramore, The Tower Hotel Health and Leisure Centre and The Woodlands Hotel Health & Leisure Centre.
However, in addition to an intensive exercise programme, they’ll follow the healthy eating maximizin plan, which they will be advised on by Orla Dawson of ‘Unislim Waterford’.
They’ll have a ‘healthy options’ food hamper from Tesco Ardkeen each week to help them.
An overall prize will be awarded to the person who achieves most in terms of both weight and percentage fat loss in the competition.
Not only will the winner receive membership of their gym for a further six months as well as flexi membership to ‘Unislim’ but they’ll also get a makeover from Shaws Department Store to the value of 350 euro.
Shaws, are sponsoring the ‘Slimmer of the week’ prize while there will also be prizes at the end of the competition for each of the runners-up, including three-month gym membership, a six-week ‘Unislim’ membership.
Fitzpatrick’s ‘The Manor Bar and Grill’, meanwhile, are also kindly sponsoring a dinner for two for each of the contestants at the end of the competition.
The public will be able to closely follow the contestant’s progress, week by week, on the WLR FM’s official ‘Facebook’ page while the leisure centres involved will also post on their own Facebook pages and run blogs.
