
WLR FM confirmed as Waterford’s most listened to radio station…
The latest IPSOS MRBI radio listenership figures show that 71% or almost 70,000 listeners tune into WLR FM each week. The radio listenership figures for the period October 2010 to the end of September 2011 also show that WLR FM’s market share has grown by 1% and in the last year to 46.5%.
WLR FM programmes have seen significant increases with Billy McCarthy’s Deise AM still Waterford’s most listened to radio show with an average quarter hour listenership now over 20,000 people. The ‘Big Breakfast Blaa’ with Timmy and Karen now with over 11,000 listeners and the ‘Big Afternoon ‘with Oliver Carroll, ‘Noctor ‘Til 6’ with Ian Noctor, the ‘Big Jukebox’ with Geoff Harris and ‘Late Night’ with Aoibhin Fallon, all doing very well across the day.
WLR FM’s Assistant Programme Controller, Michael Byrne says “while we held our own in a lot of areas, this latest survey has shown some increases in our Monday-Friday programmes” While WLR FM is delighted internally with their figures, Michael Byrne says “we must always remember our listeners and our business partners and thank them for their support.”
WLR FM has just completed a charity drive called ‘Blaa’s for Kids’ which raised over €6,500 for the Sacred Heart Day Care Centre and also the business competition ‘Deise Den’ which saw local companies battle it out for the overall prize of €32,000. Margaret Fleming of DesertFirst was the overall winner.
WLR FM has recently signed sponsorship deals with Flahavan’s, The Book Centre, McConnell’s Toyota and Harvey Travel. The station was also the sponsor of the recent ‘Pride of Waterford’ awards. WLR FM is the overall sponsor of the Community development awards which take place in Clonea in November and is currently planning the 2011 Christmas Appeal.
All of which confirm that WLR FM is committed to being First for Waterford.
