Waterford Disability Network call for disability legislation to be ratified
People with disabilities must be allowed the same basic human rights as everyone else.
That's the call that's been made by the Chairman of the Waterford Disability Network.
Ireland signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities a decade ago, but have not made it legally binding, by failing to ratify it.
It means Irish people with disabilities currently don't have the right to choose where to live, the right to education and employment supports or the right to engage in a sexual relationship.
Chairperson of the Waterford Disability network, John McDonald says he wants to see the Convention ratified once and for all.
