Deise secures narrow victory over Kilkenny

Waterford recorded their first win since 2004 in Nolan Park today when they defeated Kilkenny in what was an exciting match. Waterford led 1-11 to 10 points at half-time. Patrick Curran scored the Waterford goal and he also added some vital points during the course of the opening 35 minutes. The second half saw Waterford continue to lead but the final minutes proved to be nailbiting as the hosts fought back and they narrowed the gap to just one point during the course of the four minutes injury time. Waterford only scored a total of four points during the course of the second half but those points were good enough to secure a vital first day victory over their old rivals. Next week, Derek McGrath's men will play at home to the All Ireland Champions Tipperary in Walsh Park. Final score was a one point win for Waterford. Kilkenny 17 points, Waterford 1-15. (file pic)
