Soccer (April 19th) Waterford United 3 Kildare County 2Waterford United's 4th league win keeps them in second spot in the Eircom First Division. The Blues are three points behind Dundalk United following a five goal thriller at the RSC on Friday night as Gareth Cronin's side took all three points with a dramatic injury time winner. Shelbourne who were joint second with Waterford could only manage a scorless draw with Sporting Fingal. Dundalk lead the way with 17 points, Waterford lie on 14 and Shelbourne are in third spot on 12 points.Paul Donnelly gave the vistors to the RSC the lead on the half hour mark with a smashing 20 yard drive as an out of sorts performance from the home side ment they trailed 1-0 at the break. The Blues lifted their game after the interval and deservedly equalised before the hour mark when Michael Foley's inswinging free kick was headed home by Kenny Browne.A breakaway attack resulted in Cathal Brady restoring Kildare County's lead minutes later as Waterford were left with a mountain to climb in the remaining 25 minutes.Substitute Joe Mulcahy added some pep to the Blues attack and when he was fouled six minutes from time Foley and Browne combined once again to level it again, 2-2.It seemed Waterford would have to settle for a point until a beautifully weigthed pass from captain David Breen found Vinny Sullivan who did enough to finish it pass the advancing keeper. So a tonic come-from-behind win that tees it up nicely for the Blues away game to Shelbourne next Friday night.Ray Scott, Matt Keane and Adrian Flanagan will bring you live commentary of Waterford United's visit to Tolka Park to face Shelbourne next Friday night.Coverage begins at 7-40. |
