Last Updated Feb 2010

Waterford 1-9   UCC 0-11

Waterford hurlers  were made to battle all the way to win the Waterford crystal tournament in Fraher field as they beat the students of UCC by the slenderest of margins.

Backed by a strong breeze UCC dominated the opening half as they led by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break.

Waterford had to wait until the 17th minute before opening their account through a Kevin Moran point.

Martin O'Neill rifled home the game's only goal early in the second half and Maurice Shanahan hit six points for the winners.

However a tight finish was always on the cards after Eoin Kelly's  dismissal for a straight  red card  early in the second half.

In the end Kevin Moran hit a late match winning point to secure the win as Waterford won the trophy for the first time since 1998.
