A mobile cath lab will be on site at University Hospital Waterford in early September, its been confirmed.
Waterford Minister of State John Halligan has announced that the tender process is complete and the mobile lab should begin operations by the middle of September.
It will be in place for five months catering for approximately 30 patients per week from the existing outpatient list.
Minister Halligan said around 30% of people who were offered an appointment in Cork for their Diagnostic Angiogram had turned it down, and he wanted to reassure them that the mobile lab would completely clear the backlog.
The throughput of the mobile lab will also factor in the second review of cardiac services in the region, he said.
