Seamus Power has claimed his first top-10 finish on the PGA Tour.

Seamus Power claimed the first top 10 of his PGA Tour career to move to within one place of the top 125 in the FedEx Cup standings who will keep their PGA Tour cards at the end of the season.

The 30-year old from West Waterford tied for 10th place in the RBC Canadian Open on 16-under par after a closing with seven birdies in a six-under par 66 at Glen Abbey Golf Club.

A rookie, Power moved up 14 places to 126th in the FedEx Cup standings with two regular season starts remaining — this week's Barracuda Championship in Reno and the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro from August 17-20.

The top 125 following the Wyndham Championship make the first playoff event, The Northern Trust at Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury from August 24-27, but while Power still has work to do to keep his card, he should be confident.

He picked up $144,000 for his finish, the biggest cheque of his PGA Tour career, taking his earnings this season to $609,746 with one top 10, four top 25s and 17 cuts made from 23 starts.

He has recently begun working with coach Nick Bradley and has now broken par in his last 12 rounds, shooting 40 under par for a stroke average of 68.
