1600 Waterford students get Leaving Cert results

The big day has arrived for 16 hundred Leaving Cert Students in Waterford City and County as they collect their results today.

792 girls and 809 boys sat the exam in the city and county this year.

For the first time in 25 years, the points system has been changed with a reduction in the number of grades available at each level.

Instead of A1s and 2s and B1s 2s and 3s, there will be 8 grades each at Higher and Ordinary level.

The Principal of Waterpark College in Waterford City Tom Beacher said his first impression of the new grading system was positive, and students were generally happy with their results.

Students in Ard Scoil na Mara in Tramore were mostly non-plussed with the new grading system.

But for those who may have concerns, they s are urged not to panic about the changes.

WIT Registrar Dr. Derek O'Byrne advises that until CAO offers are made next Monday, the changes in points for courses will not be comparable to last year.
