Déise captain praises efforts of his charges in All-Ireland defeat

Waterford's long wait for All-Ireland glory goes on after Galway were deservedly crowned All-Ireland Senior hurling Champions after a thrilling contest yesterday in Croke Park

There was only a point between the sides at half-time as Galway held a 0-14 to 2-7 advantage, with Kevin Moran and Shane Bennett netting goals for Waterford

Waterford took the lead for the first time in the 42nd minute, however Galway responded swiftly and picked off scores at ease

Waterford battled right to the end, but it Galway who held on for their first All-Ireland title since 1988 with a 0-26 to 2-17 victory

Déise Captain Kevin Moran said the team was hugely disappointed but could be proud of their efforts

Kevin paid tribute to all those who supported the team throughout an exciting campaign
