Waterford Council called on to provide free designated parking spaces for elderly drivers.

Waterford Council has been asked to implement free car parking for elderly motorists who fall outside the blue badge disability scheme.

Currently in Waterford there are over four thousand two hundred people with a driver licence who are over the age of 70.

Waterford Labour Party area representative, Brendan Byrne, has submitted a proposal, 'Provisions to accommodate elderly motorists', to City Hall.

He says this vulnerable group of people should be catered for and it would make life much easier for elderly drivers in Waterford City and County.

Brendan Byrne says he believes that promoting this scheme is innovative and places Waterford at the forefront of dignity and respect of the elderly.
