Charity run getting underway at Waterford Airport

Elite athlete Sonia o' Sullivan is among one thousand people are taking part in a charity run at Waterford Airport this morning in memory of Coastguard pilot Capt Dara Fitzpatrick.

 

The run is getting underway shortly at 10am.
Dara died along with Mark Duffy, Paul Ormsby and Ciarán Smith when their Coastguard helicopter crashed into Blackrock Island off the Mayo coast last March.
Runners will pass the Search and Rescue base where Dara was based for 10 years working with Rescue 117.

The charities who benefit from the proceeds of today's event are Touching Hearts and South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association.
