University Hospital Waterford has appealed to people to stay away from the Emergency Department unless it is absolutely necessary to attend.
The hospital released the following statement at midday today:
"University Hospital Waterford is currently experiencing unprecedented Emergency Department demand. As always, UHW continues to treat all patients presenting with emergency care requirements as expeditiously as possible.
In order that all persons requiring emergency care can continue to be treated in an appropriate and timely manner UHW is asking that members of the public should only attend the Emergency Department where absolutely necessary, and where no other treatment options are available through GP or Community Care Services.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation."
