Waterford TD's critisize reported plans to close over four hundred post offices.

Waterford TD's critisize reported plans to close over four hundred post offices.

It was reported last week that An Post intends to streamline its operation from eleven-hundred down to seven hundred offices.

It is widely believed this will mainly hit rural areas, including the post office in the county Waterford village of Kilmeaden.

The post office has been closed temporarily pending a national nationwide review.

Waterford Fianna Fáil deputy Mary Butler says rural post offices are too important to be done away with.

Waterford Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane says closing the post offices would almost certainly be against the wishes of rural people.
