Dunmore East ice plant reopens after temporary closure due to E. coli

Waterford Sinn Fein councillor Pat Fitzgerald has called on Bord Iasca Mhara to re-affirm it's commitment to improving facilities at the harbour in Dunmore East.

The ice plant at the port has been reopened after samples tested positive for e-coli last week.

The facility was given the all clear yesterday evening, allowing fishermen to stock up there for the first time in ten days.

Councillor Fitzgerald has called on BIM to restore the plant to full operational capacity, and provide a high standard of ongoing preventative maintenance.

He says a lot of good work has taken place on the harbour, but that further investment is needed.

"The port in general has been working quite well since the large dredging programme here three years ago," he says, "but we need the facilities, like the ice plant, to be kept in top notch condition in order to keep pace with how the port is progressing.
