The N25 Waterford bypass isn't getting  as much traffic as expected.

 

The project opened to traffic in October 2009.

The figure of heavy goods vehicles passing through the plaza last year had risen from 175,000 to 378 thousand .

Two and a half million cars, vans and motorcycles also used it last year.

In the last two years there was a 44 percent jump in the number of trucks passing through the Waterford toll bridge and a 30% increase in commuter traffic.

The total revenue collected last year was seven point three million up from six point five million in 2015.

However it was revealed at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee that the road is not
meeting annual targets for volume of traffic.

Michael Kennedy of Transport Infrastructure Ireland told Waterford Sinn Fein TD David Cullinane
that the targets set have not been met.
