Gunners see off Thurles in Walsh Park thriller

Ballygunner overcame a strong Thurles Sarsfields challenge in this afternoon's thrilling Munster Club hurling semi-final in front of a good crowd at Walsh Park.

Ballygunner lead at half-time by 1-8 to 0-8, with the goal coming from a long range free through Pauric Mahony.

The second half was nip and tuck throughout as Ballygunner lost attacker Brian O' Sullivan due to a nasty shoulder injury.

Thurles were given a huge lift when Conor Stakelum buried the rebound to the net after an intial save from Stephen O' Keeffe.

Points from Pauric Mahony and Peter Hogan seemed to seal it for the Gunners but Thurles responded with late scores, Lar Corbett getting the equaliser to force extra-time, it ended 1-15 apiece at the end of normal time.

The Gunners held a two point lead at the end of the forst periodof extra-time and they finished the second period strongly as late points from JJ Hutchinson and scorer in chief Pauric Mahony sealed a dramatic 1-21 to 1-19 victory after a pulsating encounter.

Ballygunner will now face Sixmilebridge in next weekend's Provincial semi-final.
