Five of Waterford’s All-Ireland finalists, Stephen O’Keeffe, Noel Connors, Jamie Barron, Kevin Moran, and Michael ‘Brick’ Walsh were named on the All-Star team of the year.
Their conquerors, Galway, lead the way with seven players named, Cork took two places and Tipperary one.
Galway talisman Joe Canning edged out the Waterford duo of Jamie Barron and Kevin Moran to claim the ‘Hurler of the Year’ prize, and was also one of Galway’s All Stars.
Another of that seven was Young Hurler of the Year Conor Whelan, who claimed that award ahead of Cork’s Mark Coleman and Waterford defender Conor Gleeson.
Speaking to Darren Cleary at the All Stars ceremony, Michael ‘Brick’ Walsh said it would have been sweeter to take the spot as All Ireland champions.
“Ultimately it’s about the All-Ireland medal,” he said, “When you have that, it (the All Star) is a nice little bonus on top of that.”
