Waterford man serving life sentence for murder to be disciplined over attack on prison guard

Brian Veale, who stabbed a fellow inmate to death in Cork prison in a row over a TV remote, attempted to strike an officer with an iron bracket he broke off a sink.

The attack was carried out last Friday in the Midlands prison.

Veale, who is 32 and from Dungarvan was jailed in 2009 for stabbing a man five times during a party in Waterford.

He stabbed fellow inmate Graham Johnson through the heart with a carving knife in May 2015.

It's expected he will face disciplinary action over the attack.
