Council CEO hopeful flights will start from Waterford Airport next year.

The CEO of Waterford City and County Council hopes Waterford Airport can begin operations again in March.

Waterford Junior Minister John Halligan says he expects the cabinet will this morning sanction emergency funding so that the Airport can continue operations for the next six months.

Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane said yesterday that continued State funding for the airport is under threat because there are no commercial flights in operation.

Council CEO Michael Walsh said having it ready to go by the Spring means it would be well placed to benefit from the tourism season. He says negotiations have been difficult.

There have been no regular scheduled services from the Airport since June 2016.
